SoliDARE

SoliDARE is a project between two partners, Kino Úsmev in Košice, Slovakia and the cultural institution Hnat Khotkevych Palace of Culture, based in Lviv, Ukraine. The main idea is to support cultural exchange, build respective audiences, share best practices and present the work of Ukrainian filmmakers in Central Europe.

Activities

Community screenings

The cycle of screenings called українське кіно (Ukrainian cinema) consists of screenings of films in the Ukrainian language for the Ukrainian community living in Košice.

Cultural residencies

Residential stays in Košice for Ukrainian artists and Lviv for Slovak artists. At the end of each stay, the residents will share the results of their work through masterclasses.

Masterclasses a workshops

Established professionals will lead masterclasses on topics such as animation, sound in film and documentary filmmaking for the public at Kino Úsmev.

Project visit

The employees of the Hnat Khotkevych Palace of Culture will participate in a project visit at Kino Úsmev in Košice.

Silent film concert

Unique screening of the silent film Man with a Movie Camera (1929) by Ukrainian director Dziga Vertov with music by Misha Kalinin and Roksana Smirnova.

Special screening and panel discussion

Screening accompanied by a moderated panel discussion on preserving and restoring Ukrainian cinema. We want to encourage cross-sectoral conversations between professionals from different fields.
